India's certified battery recycling facility processing all battery chemistries with indigenously
developed technology, CPCB authorisation, and 6,000 MTPA capacity built for the demands of a
battery-powered economy.
India's Battery Waste Challenge Demands a Responsible Answer
The rapid adoption of electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and portable electronics has made
lithium-ion batteries one of the fastest-growing waste streams in India. With millions of batteries
reaching end-of-life every year from EV packs and industrial UPS units to laptops, smartphones, and
power tools the question of what happens next has never been more urgent.
Improper disposal of battery waste releases hazardous materials including lithium, cobalt, nickel,
and fluorinated compounds into soil and groundwater, posing serious environmental and public health
risks. At the same time, the critical materials locked inside spent batteries lithium, cobalt,
manganese, nickel are finite, expensive, and largely imported.

Indigenous Technology. A National Mission.
Ecoreco’s battery recycling capability is built on technology developed in strategic partnership
with a premier Government Research Institution designed specifically for battery waste conditions
and chemistries.
This collaboration reflects a shared national vision: to build domestic processing capacity for
battery waste so that India’s critical material resources are recovered, refined, and reintroduced
into the supply chain right here in India.
Black Mass Processing and Precious Material Recovery
At the heart of battery recycling is a substance called black mass the powdered active material
recovered after a battery is safely discharged, dismantled, and shredded. Black mass is
extraordinarily valuable because it contains high concentrations of critical and precious materials.
Ecoreco’s indigenously developed hydrometallurgical processing technology extracts the following
materials from black mass:
Lithium: a critical material for new battery cell manufacturing
Cobalt: one of the most valuable and supply-constrained battery materials globally
Nickel: essential for high-energy-density battery cathodes
Manganese: used in battery cathode chemistry and steel alloys
Copper: recovered from current collectors and wiring within battery packs
Aluminium: recovered from cell casings and structural components
By recovering these materials domestically, Ecoreco reduces India’s dependence on virgin metal
mining protecting natural ecosystems, lowering the carbon footprint of battery production, and
contributing directly to a circular economy for critical minerals.
Every kilogram of cobalt or lithium recovered from a spent battery is one kilogram that does not
need to be mined.
All Battery Types. One Certified Partner.
Ecoreco accepts and processes the full spectrum of battery chemistries whether you are an EV
manufacturer retiring packs at scale, an IT company disposing of laptop and UPS batteries, or a
corporate with mixed battery waste from your facilities.
Battery Types We Recycle
Lithium-Ion (Li-ion)
The most widely used rechargeable battery chemistry today found in smartphones, laptops,
tablets, power banks, electric two-wheelers, and electric vehicles. Ecoreco processes Li-ion
cells, modules, and full battery packs.
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
Increasingly used in electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage systems for their
thermal stability and long cycle life. Ecoreco is equipped to handle LFP packs from EV OEMs
and renewable energy storage operators.
Lithium Polymer (LiPo)
Used in consumer electronics, drones, wearable devices, and medical equipment. LiPo
batteries require specialist handling due to their flexible pouch form factor our facility
is equipped for safe processing.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH)
Common in hybrid vehicles, older consumer electronics, and industrial equipment. Ecoreco
recovers nickel and rare earth materials from spent NiMH batteries.
Nickel Cadmium (NiCd)
Found in industrial power tools, emergency lighting, and legacy electronic equipment. NiCd
batteries contain cadmium a hazardous heavy metal that demands careful, authorised handling.
Ecoreco ensures compliant and safe processing.
Lead Acid Batteries
Used extensively in UPS systems, inverters, vehicles, and telecom backup infrastructure.
Lead acid batteries are one of India's highest-volume battery waste streams. Ecoreco
processes lead acid batteries with zero environmental discharge.
Other Chemistries & Industrial Battery Packs Including solid-state batteries, button cells, alkaline
batteries, and custom battery assemblies from industrial and medical applications. If you are unsure
whether we handle your battery type, contact our team we almost certainly do.

Battery EPR Compliance Made Simple
The Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 place Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations on
battery producers, importers, and OEMs to ensure their batteries are collected and recycled through
authorised channels.
As a CPCB-registered battery recycler, Ecoreco is an authorised EPR partner. We provide:
Collection and recycling of batteries against your EPR targets
EPR certificates filed directly against your CPCB EPR account
Quarterly and annual compliance reporting support
Documentation for CPCB portal submissions
Whether you are meeting EPR targets for the first time or looking to consolidate your battery and
e-waste EPR under a single authorised partner, Ecoreco simplifies the entire process.
Ecoreco recycles all lithium-ion battery types including Li-ion, Lithium Iron Phosphate
(LFP), Lithium Polymer (LiPo), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), and
Lead Acid batteries. We accept batteries from EVs, laptops, smartphones, UPS systems,
industrial equipment, and more.
Yes. Ecoreco is authorised by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for battery
waste recycling and is registered under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Yes. Ecoreco has the infrastructure and technical capability to handle full EV battery
packs — including dismantling, cell-level processing, and black mass recovery. We work
with EV OEMs and fleet operators across India.
Black mass is the active material recovered from spent lithium-ion battery cells after
safe discharge and shredding. It contains valuable critical materials including lithium,
cobalt, nickel, and manganese. Ecoreco processes black mass using indigenously developed
technology to recover these materials for reuse — reducing the need for freshly mined
virgin metals.
